Christoph grades to 2nd dan!

Christoph Hess passed his Nidan grading with flying colours in Manchester on Sunday 9th June.

Christoph has trained tirelessly, holding the club’s strongest training record for the last 6 months. Following a pre-grading warm up session at the Rhyl & Prestatyn club in North Wales, and some hiking around the Welsh mountains with Sensei Richard, he travelled on to Manchester where he performed kihon, kumite and kata under the scrutiny of grading examiners Senseis Frank and Jimmy Brennan, both 8th dan.

Congratulations to Christoph on this fantastic achievement.

A traditional Shotokan Karate Club

The Cambridge Karate Academy launched in 2022. We teach traditional Shotokan karate and our classes cover the three core training disciplines: kihon (basic technique), kata (set form) and kumite (fighting). We are an adult club and welcome all those interested in training who are above the age of 16 (there is no upper age limit!)

Our logo was designed by Petre Nicolescu, 4th dan.

The red lion represents our fighting spirit and our ties to Cambridge. The lion’s mane is shaped like the wings of a phoenix, symbolising the rebirth of our club.

Above the lion’s head is a gate, representing the gate built by Funakoshi’s students when they rebuilt their dojo after it was bombed in world war 2.

Experienced Instructors

The Cambridge Karate Academy has a large number of both permanent and visiting senior grade karateka whose expertise ensures the karate we teach is of high standard.
